What does a Mint Julep make you think of? The Kentucky Derby, right? But why should such a delicious cocktail be relegated to one day for an event that lasts only two minutes? They're way too tasty for that, and with the addition of juicy watermelon, you've got a inspiriting cocktail to serve all summer long.
1 1/2 oz. Rio Brazos Texas Whiskey (I like to use local or Texas brands when possible!)
½ oz. Russell & Mahoney simple syrup
5 sprigs fresh mint
6 cubes fresh watermelon
Muddle simple syrup and watermelon in a mixing glass. Add mint and press lightly to release oils. Add bourbon and mix well with cracked ice. Strain over crushed ice. Garnish with watermelon and fresh mint.
Now that you've mastered this one, why not learn a few more? We're joining forces with Weather Up to bring you a monthly Brunch + Cocktails series. Come hang out with us on June 11th as we kick it off with tasty bites and three hands-on cocktail creations.
