--ABOUT THE ARTIST--
Kirsten Lofgren was born and raised in east Tennessee. She grew up exploring forests around her home and hiking in the mountains with her family. She moved west to explore the deserts and mountains of Utah, where she received her BFA in Studio Art from Brigham Young University in 2015. She has exhibited around the United States and in Berlin, participating in shows at the Woodbury Art Museum, the Bemis Arts Building, and The WYE among others. She now makes drawings, and oil paintings in Austin, Texas.
I make art that explores the tension between the constructed world and the landscape. I am fascinated by the way people and their environments change each other. I explore the emotions that forgotten places hold for me; those of long forgotten memories or dreams. My recent work explores the idea of transformation in people and in their landscapes over time. My paintings incorporate altered colors and invented patterns to create an imagined world based on realistic natural landscapes. I hope to draw people out of their reality through a sense of apprehension displayed within often-peaceful subject matter.
